Are people shy? Or are they ill-behaved?

Can you imagine that this question even enters our thoughts when we’re reading news reports that seem so slanted toward the negative views. My memory banks recall they also want us to be impacted by a lot of the negative media about war, death, terrorism, and who is the best politician, etc. No, there is never any bias there.

In this world online, we have an opportunity to explore life in the same way we do in our local neighborhoods. And I’d certainly hope that we people, around the globe, have the common decency and self-respect to do the right thing. Granted, we must also be aware that the right-thing in North America isn’t always the same thing in another country around the globe. We must communicate our differences and open our hearts and minds to understand one another.

But you want your privacy, right?

Don’t get internet hookup at home, don’t get cable, don’t open a bank account, don’t get a credit card, don’t apply for a loan, don’t buy a house, and don’t get an education. In fact, it would be even easier if you just weren’t born. Right?

We came into this world, for better or for worse, and we are taking part in a life-dance with every one of our neighbors. For some reason we end up knowing things we ought not to know. This isn’t a bad thing. This is part of a global consciousness.

The Law of Attraction and How it Applies to Our Reality

Reality is what we perceive through our human experience of life. Given all this talk about the law of attraction and that our world and world-view exits in our mind, it is difficult to comprehend this when we see and experience so many other players who would apparently have the same determining ability about this perceived reality we live.

Consciousness Exists

We know consciousness exists through the simple and unavoidable fact that we share a sense of consciousness within our own experience. Where consciousness in the singular exists, there also exists a global consciousness that comprises the group. As our world communication and population density has increased, so has the energy and flow of information, both in form of real hard data, and in subtle energy flows from community to community.

Global Agreement

Where the Law of Attraction and Consciousness work in unison, there exists a global agreement about our perceived reality. And this global agreement has existed and has evolved from generation to generation, and is also written in our DNA.

I confess I don’t know all the science of it, as I’m a layman who has studied a broad range of topics, some at depth and others not. However, my assimilation of information, interest in metaphysics, quantum physics, spirituality & religious studies, as well as the arts and having a sense of intuition and the expression of the divine. It follows me in my writing, in my art, and in my love for life.

Living In Community

Everywhere I look, I see life happening. Flowers in the fields, birds in the sky, people on the streets. Some dress up, some dress down, and some dress to shock. Each one has a unique story, and all I ever catch over days, weeks, months, and years, are little bits and bytes as we pass each other on the streets of our lives. They’re not being any more private in real life than they would be online, and I’m not seeing that much more or less either.

Records, Privacy, and Shifting Changes

Records have been kept on people and their habits longer than the Internet has been around. Period. Every government, institution, and individual has a standard about how to handle private information. While nothing in life is ever 100%, I do know that in most of these cases, my trust is well placed and well protected.

And with the new things that arrive in our lives, like the telephone, the cell phone, the Internet, and just like postal mail, coupons, and junk mail, we people will continue to influence outcomes through our own active participation guiding the outcomes.

Set the Intentions

Focus upon the solutions for sharing, caring, and having fun in the online world. Own your part in creating the right sort of community, and online life you want to experience. And know that it is online, in a space where it is meant to be accessible and stored elsewhere — not your computer. It’s all good, and we can have fun with this.

For Consideration

If the media scares the average person away from using and sharing via the Internet because they’re afraid of the cost to their privacy, what do the traditional media channels stand to gain in return?

It sounds to me that there is something bigger going on around the issue of our Freedom!

Denial: I have to wonder what this is really all about.

Over the decades, as psychology has gone more mainstream, it has infiltrated every aspect of our lives culturally and socially. It’s in our health coverage plans, employee benefits, in the movies, sitcoms, and even more in the advertisements. I’d say they’re having an influence upon our self and group consciousness.

Earlier, I caught myself asking a question to seek the opinion of someone else about my skill, rather than just toot my horn which was what I was inspired to do in the first place. I had just finished work on a project that made me feel pretty good, and true to joy, a little cocky swaggering was called for. Instead, I censored myself and tried soliciting accolades rather than be boastful. I puzzled over this turn-about and what influenced this censoring.

As I have studied and observed the human condition over the years, it has been noted that a steady surge has broken down communion among people by placing more emphasis upon personal satisfaction and fulfillment. With so much individuality pushed in the marketplace, advertising relationships, etc., the subliminal influences shift our value-base unconsciously. With there being so much negative media created to ‘sell’ to consumers, the personal identity and place of the individual in context to family and community becomes obscured, questionable, and finally, burdensome, to many.

On yet another side, the self-help industry is so full of individual band-aid stories, that the people seeking solutions typically find themselves discovering more personal problems than they bargained for. It’s like reading the horoscope. There are enough generalities and commonalities among people that we can buy into a prognosis which we then make more real through our own belief. In addition, rational and healthy human behavior ends up falling under close scrutiny while answers are sought amongs all the expert opinions, programs, and books.

As I found myself concluding these thoughts, only one question remained. When will simply being a joyful and sharing human being be okay again?

A fog rolled in, quietly slithering in low to the ground, imperceptible at first until it was too late to escape the chill soup.

It’s not You, it’s the It!

What the…? Do you even know what you’re talking about?

It! It’s the It, man! You’ve got it, and typically, we’ve all got it in some way, shape, or form. The beautiful thing about it though, is that It isn’t You. It just is what it is.

You, on the other hand, are the pure seed of creation seeking out its fullest potential through growth. Trouble is, you spend so much time in an imperfect world taking the hits that life throws at you, that you don’t even realize that you’re experiencing wounds and stunted areas you perceive as your imperfections. People own it as a life sentence instead of seeing their opportunities!

——-

Tell a story, or just write? Stalled by what I thought might be a clever devil, rather than an authentic self, I questioned. This is a big deal, a big moment, a potential turning-point. Dare I be so bold as to flow with it?

When a bunch of heavy puzzle pieces fall into place, a wave of emotion rushes to every pore as tears of release threaten to flood. The realization of a source that is a cause to so much of life’s difficulties, as I experience it, is profound. Reeling, my brain suddenly feels emptied, and yet, a fog is preventing focus and memory to serve normally through my day. This is some big stuff I uncovered.

It’s interesting: To sit in this experience at this moment, it is simultaneously a pleasing and unpleasant experience. It is full of rich emotions, with below-the-surface remnants of sadness, anger, frustration, and confusion swimming around freely, while a stronger emotion of wonder accompanied by curiosity, has more conscious power, even though it sometimes sees fear. Ready for a big change?

Awareness, now sees the truth as it happens, recognizes the reactions, and the choice to change the old-patterns of reaction to a healthy response living authentically. The exercise of mind, to choose differently, to commit to the process, and to engage actively with that process, will prevail over old-patterns. It’s an interesting fight.

I can see the resistance too. There is a devil in the experience of change that wishes to stay within the security of even the most foul life experiences. It is more afraid of the unknown, than it is of the painful reality it has managed to find some solace within. Even though you and I can sit here and recognize this, we also feel that other sense screaming, “No, this is not the experience of life I signed up for! There is more! Much more!” Pay attention.

Knowing it is one thing. Acting upon it is quite another. Need it be so difficult? We’ll discover more on this as the story and research unfolds.

It appears even to me, that much of my writing is heavy, and even full of anger. Reflecting upon what this is all about, many things raced through my mind. One is how someone once wrote inspirationally is now turned to a style and focus that has brought attention to bear upon the darker side of our human experience. Justification, rationalization, all represent possible arguments, however, I believe that opening up the expressions from those darker spaces has a tendency to level the playing field… To make us remember that we are all human again. That it is okay to not be so perfect. That we were all four years old once. Our social games are taking the joy of being out of life.

A question posed last evening brings a strong focus to where any of us would benefit putting our attention. The question simply asked, “What do people want?”

This will be a good place to look and to give. As I had my attention upon this question, I began to realize that getting what we want comes through giving others what they want.

So much life conditioning inhibits the brilliance that is in you. Are you accessing all that is available to you? As a brilliant coach, as a creative person, as a brilliant human-being, as a brilliant spiritual being, as a bright light in the world, you have access to so much abundance. Are you living it? Are you breathing it? Are you believing it in every fibre of your being?

Or are you buying into the myth, the illusions? There are so many things aimed at people to help them build their lives and businesses; as though they are not enough themselves, as though the magic and mystery of existence were there to thwart your success. So far from the truth of the abundance available in the universe. It often shocks and surprises me to see this disturbing trend. Whatever the truths are, I’m here to say there is MORE!

Dismantle the illusions of safety, security, structures, that create a prison of expectation, necessity, and image. Get into the risk of playing in the mud, getting dirty, letting go and letting God, magic, Source, energy, creativity (whatever belief/name suits you). You had it happening once as a kid. Bring it alive again. Inside, you are yearning for it.

Get excited again about the adventure, this life. Get curious and playful with your day-to-day, with your business, with your home, relationships, and finances. If you resist and prefer safety, security, and rigidity, I’m curious:

So how’s that working for you?

Where are you still dissatisfied?

What don’t you want to let go of?

What’s it costing you?

These thoughts, while universal, really are inspired by the tragic scarcity demonstrated in the world.. Obviously it doesn’t affect everyone, but we do see some living in scarcity. This is a boost to those that do need it and a reminder to those of us who get it but are still human in our experience.

Business trends have always swung extreme-to-extreme in conduct, behaviour, and strategy (or tragedy). Human Capital is always the bottom-line for every transaction and reason for being. Losing sight of this creates all sorts of havoc in social spheres and financial spheres. Examples of short-term thinking losing sight of the long-term impact.

A quick buck is seductive, and the market has driven itself to producing a consumer that throws away and buys replacement so that our markets can sustain themselves. Don’t get me started on explaining this – it’s a sore point – as our once ability to adapt and repair has been reduced to throw away and replace, regardless of the expense. Our attitude toward material objects spills into our relationships with people.

In any sphere, as in every business, people make the machines go. We buy, we sell, we make, we serve, we support, and we create. It is in doing all these things that we also provide a basic human need to interact; to know others and to be known. Loyalty, service, value, and earnings are all directly tied to our value upon the human capital, whether serving the company, or a customer of the company.

Whatever it is you are selling, understand some basic principles.

Relationship: Invest in your relationships on a personal level. Build a commitment to them so that they will engage in return. Don’t worry about the dollar value, worry about the relationship value. Investing wisely will yield tremendous Return$.

Freedom: People are free to choose and you desire the same freedom of choice. Provide and offer your customers freedom. Whenever they hesitate, offer an alternative. Always focus upon filling their need first. Once they’re committed, the relationship will offer the right up-sell.

Change: The Top Dog isn’t the Top Dog forever. There is a natural evolution with everything in life. When more choices hit the market, the consumer base may disperse a little or a lot. Always be ready for change, always enable movement and supported change. The more you empower your customers choice, the sooner they can return as you adapt and change too.

TurnOver: Why are Dynamic websites the most successful, and the way we continue to go? People need stimulation, change, growth, and more. It might be a little more frenetic than is healthy, and it is what it is. Facilitate change, bringing new talent, creativity, and ideas to the organization. At the same time, empower departing talent with the support to transition successfully. Paths may cross at new levels again. As the Culture of Society shifts, so does the culture of the organization.

Adapt: With life continuing, adaptability, growth, flexibility, learning, change, empowerment, etc., are all encouraged in an individual. As it is in an individual, so it is in an organization. Allow the creativity of life from all fronts be brought to bear upon the marketing efforts, etc. Sure we don’t fix what ain’t broke, but we don’t let it die a slow death either.

You’ll have noted this encompasses an attitude that fits Life, Business, human resources, customer service, etc. If there were a word to describe it, it would be FLOW, the ability to allow Life to move in and out of your grip. Trusting that Life would replenish as she does with the Seasons, and that every up and down is an opportunity for change, improvement, empowerment, and success.

Keep tweakin’!

From the archives June 29, 2005

Most people get involved in a relationship for the right reasons and leave a relationship for the wrong reasons. In fact, most of us have been guilty of it at one time or another and of being a complete spaz demanding we get our way in the relationship. Remember the movie He Said, She Said? A constant power struggle ensues when you make the relationship all about you. So why do we do it?

I believe the reason this happens is that we make unhealthy relationship choices. In our deepest inner desires, we naturally long for companionship and love in our lives. In our haste, we choose unwisely and compromise for that “next person” that comes along to satisfy that longing. In this context, it’s easy to bend and flex because in the beginning we still don’t know that person. Then as we do get to know them, we find ourselves making more compromises because we don’t have the guts to fess up to our mistakes and all sorts of other irrational reasons rambling through our head to avoid hurting someone else. Bad move, fess up.

In our relationship goals, we need to be much more aware of ourselves, our habits, our desires, our likes and dislikes. The focus should not be on the person, the focus should be on the relationship. Even in the dating context – it could lead to something serious – we should focus on the relationship goals. What is it you want in a relationship? Who are you in a relationship? What do you need from the relationship? And, and, and… take stock and stay open to change, improvements, discovery and more.

When you can answer these questions more clearly and you find yourself able to understand what you can give to the relationship, you choose your partners more wisely. You also communicate more openly and honestly because it is less about you and more about the relationship; you no longer need to criticize them, you can articulate your feelings and needs. The other person can listen better because it is more about the relationship and less about them. And adjustments can be made so much more smoothly from both sides when we communicate on the relationship.

So look at it like a triangle. You on one side, your partner on the other. Instead of eyeballing and measuring each other, look to the peak – the Relationship. That’s your goal, that’s your partners goal, and you look only at yourself in comparison to the relationship goals. You’re teammates, you see the goal, and now you can work more effectively together.

It’s not about me, it’s about the relationship. Can I give that to achieve this in the relationship? Do I want that? Yes, then let’s do it.

Many things have been coming at me from all sides recently. Getting my feet under me in a new position that is ever-changing, growing, evolving, and equally confusing at times. With one positive change another follows and an upturn in my social life takes off. And yet, at the same time, other stresses are interfering. My observations are saying many things.

If you ever caught a wild creature to keep in a cage, you will have noticed the lack of life and increase of fear in the animal. An embattled human struggling for survival through illness, divorce, death, financial difficulties, etc., are often prey to that animal response.

Leaders would do well to increase freedom and to be clearer about boundaries. Freedom creates growth, creativity, and individuality to shine. Boundaries represent clear communications around expected deliverables, budgets, any specific directions. In other words, the key ingredients that will ensure the employee’s success.

Credit companies would succeed far more if they invested in collaborative solutions to assist troubled debtors before it becomes a serious issue that burdens the courts, political system, accountants, collectors, and debtors. Why care about the debtor? Successful solutions enable and empower a debtor to dig out of a hole that health, career, or relationship could have helped dig.

Anyone collaborating in business would do well to notice that both sides are investing something of equal value. Themselves, and their time. From that standpoint, a commitment to each exists that ought be respected for the duration. This respect will ensure all fairness from both parties.

We all would do well to do better. And I sit here wondering how I’m doing.
